Top 3 Must-Have Homeschooling Supplies for Fall (Plus More!)

When it comes to homeschooling, having the right supplies can make all the difference. As we dive into the cozy fall season, I wanted to share our family's top three must-haves to make our homeschool days run smoothly (and a little more fun)! Plus, I’ve included a few more honorable mentions because, let’s face it, there are always more goodies to add to the list.

1. Craft Supplies Galore

Whether we’re learning about the seasons or doing a fun history project, my kids LOVE getting creative with craft supplies. Markers, paint, glue sticks, colored pencils—these are the backbone of our homeschool setup. We try to incorporate art into nearly everything we do. My daughter is the type who remembers things better if she draws them out, and even my toddler loves joining in on the fun. We use markers and bright colors instead of the usual pencils for schoolwork. It’s amazing how much more excited they are to do their lessons when they can color-code their math problems or make beautiful diagrams for science.

Pro Tip: Always have a variety of paper on hand—construction paper, watercolor paper, even old scrap paper works! It’s a life-saver when creativity strikes.

2. Clear, See-Through Bins

Now, this is one of my favorite hacks. I’ve found that my kids are much more likely to use their toys, books, and supplies if they can SEE them. So, we’ve ditched the opaque storage boxes and switched to clear bins that keep everything visible. This works wonders in our homeschool area and in the playroom. Need a quick math manipulative? It’s right there. Want to grab that sensory bin for the toddler? Boom—there it is.

Not only does this keep everything organized, but it helps minimize the “I didn’t know we had that!” moments, which, let’s be honest, are pretty common with kids. 😅

3. A Curriculum That Works for You

This is a biggie. Last year, we used The Good and the Beautiful, and we really loved it. The lessons were straightforward, and the artwork was so beautiful. But this year, we’re making a switch to Abeka and Saxton because my daughter’s co-op will be using them, and we like to keep things consistent. Whether you’re just starting or you’ve been homeschooling for years, choosing a curriculum that fits your child’s learning style is key.

If you’re new to homeschooling and not sure where to start, I’ve got digital guides on my website that break down different teaching styles, plus recommendations for curriculums that align with each style. Trust me, it makes a world of difference when your curriculum clicks with your child’s needs and personality!

Honorable Mentions for Fall Homeschool Supplies:

  • Whiteboard and Markers: Great for hands-on problem solving, doodles, and quick lessons.

  • Laminator: I’m obsessed with laminating worksheets and activity cards that we use over and over.

  • Timers: Whether it’s to keep focus during work time or for a fun beat-the-clock challenge, timers keep us on track.

  • Snacks: Always. Have. Snacks. I swear kids learn better with a snack break (and so do I)!

Whether you're just starting or a seasoned homeschooler, having the right supplies makes all the difference. Don’t forget, I have a full list of elementary must-haves on my website, so if you're looking for more ideas to make your homeschool year a success, check it out!
