The Beauty of the Ordinary
"Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." – 1 Corinthians 10:31
Somewhere between sweeping crumbs off the floor for the tenth time and refereeing sibling squabbles, it hit me: this is holy ground. It doesn’t feel like it most days. Most days, it feels like chaos. But 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds me that everything we do—even the smallest, most mundane tasks—can be done for God’s glory. That changes everything, doesn’t it?
For so long, I thought glorifying God meant doing big, world-changing things. But in this season of life, the “big” looks a lot like tying little shoes, packing lunches, and reading Pout-Pout Fish for the millionth time. It’s a quiet kind of holy. It’s in the unseen moments: when I pause to comfort a crying child instead of losing my patience, or when I fold another load of laundry with gratitude for the family that creates it.
The other night, as I tucked my oldest into bed, she whispered, “Mom, you’re my favorite.” I thought about the long day we’d had, full of interruptions and frustrations, and realized that the love we pour into these ordinary moments is what our children will remember. The way we show up—with grace, with kindness, with a heart that reflects Christ—is what shapes their understanding of God’s love.
So, mama, don’t underestimate the power of your daily faithfulness. God sees you. He sees the meals prepared, the hugs given, the prayers whispered over sleepy heads. And He’s glorified in all of it.
Prayer: Lord, help me to see the beauty in the ordinary moments of my day. Remind me that You are with me in the big and the small, and that everything I do has value when it’s done for You. Give me strength to pour out love, even when I feel poured out myself. Amen.
